Personel Statement

My current practice has involved observing and satirizing defunct and outmoded military and cultural models. The recent collision of English and French nuclear submarines in the mid-Atlantic is a good example of the first. Like many people I was very surprised to learn that the collision had happened at all because I'd imagined that such nuclear activities in a post-cold war era by second rate powers would surely be a thing of the past. Apparently not. In my work I want to show the redundancy of these old tools of stalemate war. Images of fields of rusting soviet tanks have had some impact in past years but I have had to create an appropriate and striking image of this recent event. Yet I am aware that what I am actually depicting amounts to little more than impotent missiles silos floating in the seas with nowhere to aim at. The result has deployed an aspect of the former (the rusting soviet tank) to convey the futility of the latter recent event.
